A Wisconsin Summer Bucket List (That Somehow Always Ends at the Bar)
July 7, 2026
Wisconsin has four seasons: Almost Winter, Winter, Still Winter, and Road Construction. But hidden inside Road Construction — for roughly nine to eleven glorious days — is summer. And baby, we do not waste it.
If you're new here, or you've somehow lived here your whole life and still get outsmarted by a supper club menu, here's your official field guide to surviving (and thriving) through a Wisconsin summer.
1. Achieve Lake Equilibrium
The goal of a Wisconsin summer is simple: get to a lake, get in a chair, and do not move until someone hands you a snack or a beverage. This is called Lake Equilibrium, and it is a scientific state recognized by no one but respected by all.
Rules of the lake:
- The water is "not that cold once you're in." This is a lie we tell each other out of love.
- Every lake has One Guy with a pontoon who knows everybody. Be nice to One Guy.
- "Up North" is not a location. It's a state of mind roughly two hours from wherever you currently are.
2. Master the Friday Fish Fry (It's a Summer Sport Now)
Yes, fish fry is a year-round institution. But summer fish fry hits different — patio seating, a sunset, and the crushing decision between cod and walleye like it's a Supreme Court case.
Pro tip: order the old fashioned before you order the fish. The bartender respects a person with priorities.
3. Understand the Brandy Old Fashioned Divide
There are two kinds of people in Wisconsin: Sweet and Sour. This is the only political line that actually matters, and families have been quietly feuding over it for generations.
If someone hands you an old fashioned made with whiskey instead of brandy, smile politely, thank them, and then quietly reconsider the friendship. We don't make the rules. (We do, actually. We absolutely make the rules.)
4. Survive the Wildlife
Wisconsin summer wildlife includes deer, loons, the occasional bald eagle stealing a fish like it owns the place, and mosquitoes the size of small drones that qualify as the unofficial state bird. Bug spray is not optional. It's a personality trait.
And of course, the raccoons. They're not pests. They're just neighbors who never learned boundaries. Respect the trash panda and the trash panda respects you. (This is not true. But it's a nice thought.)
5. Attend at Least One (1) Small-Town Festival
Somewhere within 30 minutes of you, this weekend, there is a festival celebrating a food, an animal, or a vegetable you've never thought deeply about. There will be a beer tent. There will be a raffle for a chest freezer full of meat. There will be a polka band that is, against all odds, ripping.
Go. This is the good stuff. This is what we trade nine months of frostbite for.
6. Accept That Summer Will End (But Not the Merch)
By August, someone will say "you can feel fall in the air" and everyone will pretend to be sad while secretly getting excited about hoodie season. The circle of Wisconsin life continues.
The point is: summer is short, the lake is calling, and you should absolutely be dressed for it.
Gear up for the good season. Whether you're a Sweet, a Sour, a Fish Fry loyalist, or just a person trying to achieve Lake Equilibrium, CheezeTeez has a shirt that says it louder than you ever could. Check out our Wisconsin Pride collection, stock up on drinkware for the lake, or browse Hunting & Outdoors gear for your next cabin weekend. Wear your Wisconsin proud — mosquitoes and all.
